Brunei Darussalam — Festivals and Events

On Friday, 29th August, 2014 I am learning  about most of Brunei’s events and festivals are religiously oriented, but there are also holidays that commemorate important historical events. The First Day of Hijrah, the birthday of the Prophet Mohammad, and Chinese New Year don’t have fixed dates and other notable celebrations include National Day and the Sultan’s Birthday.

New Year’s Day

The New Year’s Eve (December 31) celebration kicks off with locals playing tennis, golf, squash, scuba diving, bowling, kayaking, and even windsurfing in anticipation of New Year’s Day. Come January 1st, there are fireworks displays and exuberant gatherings for families and friends.

Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday

An Islamic holiday without a fixed date, Muhammad’s Birthday usually falls in January/February. The Sultan and the rest of the royal Brunei family typically lead a procession throughout Bandar Seri Begawan.

National Day

February 23 is Brunei’s National Day, an annual celebration of its independence from Britain. Though freedom was actually achieved on January 1, 1984, the official celebration is held every February 23 to follow tradition.

Royal Brunei Armed Forces Day

Armed Forces Day is celebrated every May 31 to pay tribute to the dedicated men and women behind the Royal Brunei army. You will see displays of artillery, exhibitions, parachuting, and military parades.

Sultan’s Birthday

July 15 is Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah’s birthday. He is the 29th Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of the country, and is also the first Prime Minister of Brunei. He was born in 1946 in Brunei Town, which is currently known as the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan.

First Day of Hijra

This day celebrates the migration of the prophet Muhammad and his followers to Medina from Mecca. This festival also marks the Islamic New Year, so it doesn’t have a fixed date but typically falls in June/July.

End of Ramadan

Eid al-Fitr is the celebrated at the end of Ramadan or the month of fasting, which is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. There is also no set date, but it usually takes place in August. Children are given presents and money, and everyone wears new clothes. Muslims go to the mosque in the morning for special Eid prayers, worship and thanksgiving. The rest of the day is all about eating and socializing with friends and family.

Christmas Day

Brunei celebrates Christmas on December 25 like the rest of the world with family gatherings and gifts

On 25th August, 2014 today I study English grammar about curriculum and learning management in English which is the most important with me I learned about listening is an important skill in teaching. Teachers should teach listening always. Give provide students have chance sound listening and teach about sound problem. The learners need to practice listening and understanding the meaning of a word or sentence to hear for comprehension and this is Structure of presentations .

Language learning depends on listening. Listening provides the aural input that serves as the basis for language acquisition and enables learners to interact in spoken communication and levels of Listening

Firstly, Listening is equipment for knowledge. Second, Listening is make meditation. Third, Listening is help reinforce creative. Forth,  Listening is make to entertainment of imagine.Five, Listening is help to develop personality.

Objectives of Teaching Listening skill is give students can understand the sounds of a foreign language and communicate. In Teaching listen skills by audiovisual. For example, record picture etc. Firstly, teachers may be their students to practice listening by listening to words, phrases, sentences or conversations used in daily life.

Listening strategies are techniques or activities that contribute directly to the comprehension and recall of listening input. Listening strategies can be classified by how the listener processes the input.

Top-down strategies are listener based; the listener taps into background knowledge of the topic, the situation or context, the type of text, and the language. This background knowledge activates a set of expectations that help the listener to interpret what is heard and anticipate what will come next. Top-down strategies include  Bottom-up strategies are text based; the listener relies on the language in the message, that is, the combination of sounds, words, and grammar that creates meaning. Bottom-up strategies include
Effective language instructors show students how they can adjust their listening behavior to deal with a variety of situations, types of input, and listening purposes. They help students develop a set of listening strategies and match appropriate strategies to each listening situation and teaching listening two styles are Listening diphthong andListening Comprehension. And steps to teaching listening skill are Sound words and Emphasize  sentence, Understanding Individual Words, Identifying and Understanding Sentences, Listening to Unfamiliar Material, Colloquialism or vernacular, Understanding Individual Words, Numbers, New Vocabulary, Minimal Pair, Listening to Unfamiliar Material, Listening to  Unfamiliar  Material ,Dictation the flow of speech ,Remember practice, Writing practice and punctuation ,Short dialogs ,Short text ,Comprehend sentence, Listening to stories and this is listening tasks are we can choose a text to read to the class we take some the words from the text and arrange them in random order on the board and we can ask different students to read different texts aloud all at the same time. It will be very noisy! Other students have to try to listen to just one of the speakers and write down what they say. How much can they hear and understand? This SHOUTED DICTATION is a way of making students feel less anxious about listening in general.

We use VIDEO is an extremely useful resource for listening. If we are using a DVD, we can fast forward a video clip. Students then discuss what they have seen and try to work out what happened and what the people in the video said. Then we play the video clip at normal speed.

Conclusion, I think that language instructors show students how they can adjust their listening behavior to deal with a variety of situations, types of input, and listening purposes. They help students develop a set of listening strategies and match appropriate strategies to each listening situation.

·
i              I learnrd about Teaching English Choose 3 students and ask them to come to the front of the class.Ask the class how each student is different. This should elicit comparative structures for example ‘Student A is taller that student B’ and ‘Student B has longer hair than student C’. It should also elicit superlatives such as ‘Student C is the tallest’ and ‘Student B has the biggest feet’.Write these structures on the board and elicit the various rules when making comparisons. Depending on level you may also see fit to introduce other structures such as ‘Student A is as tall as student B’. This will depend on the ability of your class.
You can now ask students to directly comment on what the students are wearing. Examples sentences such as ‘They are all wearing blue jeans’ may occur. Again write all these sentences on the board. When they are done ask three more students come up and draw the people according to the descriptions on the board. This provides a fun, kinaesthetic part of the activity and allows an opportunity to be somewhat creative. Now put students into groups of three, give out the ‘Three of a kind?’ template and ask them to do the same in their groups. Each group should have the same exact sentences as this encourages collaboration however the pictures will be different. Set a time limit and monitor. When finished put the finished sheets on the walls and encourage students to walk around, read and add any more comparatives they can think of.
In conclusion, Students could choose a form of transport, draw it and compare it with each other. They could also bring photos in of family members. Younger learners may enjoy doing the same thing with animals.
Use this activity to practice the use of comparatives and superlatives and to introduce more complex ways of comparison. As a sub aim it also revises various lexical sets depending on the things to be compared. It can be adapted to be used for all ages although it is essential that some previous introduction to comparatives and superlatives has been done.

Learning log inside my classroom. On 18th August, 2014

On 18th August, 2014 today I study English grammar about curriculum and learning management in English which is the most important with me. Therefore, the teachers teach preparation plan. Follow, curriculum   is important education by we much analyze the indicator with performance and evaluation.

First of all, I learned about analyzing the curriculum. That have composition are standard, indicator, and objectives but objectives composition three parts are performance is perform to teacher could observe the students. Next, the condition is the state that to be in bad/ good/ excellent/ condition and standard is a level of quality especially one that people think is acceptable. In addition, I learned about language function have search, process, synthesis, evaluation, write therefore task and test lets together and evaluation is adjust and objective lets together.

I think that the knowledge curriculum   is important education of students by learning must try practice and use assessment for improving problem that may take all four skills and practice until students has been competence into process accuracy and quality in composition  learning and that make successful study in the future.
